About the Greece Buccaneers

The Greece Buccaneers Soccer Club was formed in 1986 and incorporated in November 1992 in the town of Greece New York as a not-for-profit youth soccer club. The Buccaneers Soccer Club exists to promote and encourage athleticism, physical exercise and sportsmanship as well as to enhance the moral character and physical health of young boys and girls through competition. To this end, the Buccaneers strive to promote the game of soccer through the establishment of organized team play, the development of skills at all levels and ages, and to instill team spirit, fellowship, and sportsmanship.

The Greece Buccaneers Soccer Club is a member of New York State West Soccer Association (NYSWSA), U.S. Youth Soccer Association (USYSA), and Rochester District Youth Soccer League (RDYSL).

Expections of Parents, Players, and Coaches

Parents Expectations
Parent participation is an important part of our clubs success. Following are examples of the types of participation that all Buccaneer parents must be willing to commit to:

  • Display appropriate behavior on the sidelines at all times.
  • Encourage the players with cheers and positive comments.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship.
  • Not to harass or verbally abuse the referee, the opposing coaches, or the members of the other team.
  • Do not coach along the sidelines.
  • Get players to practice and games on time.
  • Notify the head coach in advance if a player cannot attend a scheduled practice or game.
  • Ensure child fulfills his/her responsibilities to the team.
  • Be on time to pick up players from games and practices.
  • Support the coaches, especially regarding lineup choices and discipline.
  • Volunteer for the Club Tournament.
  • Provide assistance in fund raising for special events.
  • Focus on effort and not on winning.
  • Provide positive environment. (e.g. No sleep-over before games or tournaments)
  • Communicate with the coaches - but not on the field during the games.
  • Support the "Team Concept".
  • Schedule vacations and camps around the travel soccer season.
REMEMBER, 'YOU TEACH BY YOUR ACTIONS' - Treat officials and guests teams with respect and as guests of our club. Negative actions or remarks are inappropriate and encourage players to do the same.

Players Expectations
Soccer is a team sport and teamwork is essential to a good team. To build good team skills, the players should:

  • Try hard and do your best at all times.
  • Be a good listener when your coaches are instructing you.
  • Be cooperative in practices and games; try to learn new technical and tactical skills.
  • Be willing to enthusiastically play different positions when the coaches think it will benefit the team and extend your soccer experience.
  • Be a team player instead of an individual star.
  • Be supportive of your teammates both on and off the field.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship.
  • Cheer on your teammates when you are not playing.
  • Make a commitment to be at all practices and games. Coming to practice part time will make it difficult for the player to learn the plays and the teamwork being taught. This is unfair to the player and his/her teammates. Those players selected to a team are expected to participate in all practices and in all scheduled league games. [Contact one of the coaches in advance to be excused if you have an unavoidable conflict and just cannot come.]
  • Come dressed appropriately and bring your equipment and water to all games and practices.

Coaches Expectations
Coaching is an important part of our clubs success. The positions are high visible positions in the club and the community. The coach could have a lasting effect, for years to come on the children he/she teaches. Coaches are expected to lead through example. • Be willing to listen to your teams cares and concerns.
  • Never be alone with one player.
  • Never leave a player unattended after a game or practice.
